Description

Deep Dive: Rust. This advanced, comprehensive course helps programmers build scalable, professional web applications by learning the complex concepts of the Rust language, memory management, and synchronization. The Rust compiler guarantees memory safety and thread safety, but getting past the basics and getting code to compile can be challenging for programmers. This course is a deep, expert look at Rust’s advanced mechanisms, starting with the type system. Participants will be introduced to topics such as Traits, Associated Types, Trait Bounds, and the Newtype Pattern before delving into more complex memory management. Topics go beyond basic ownership to cover smart pointers such as Box, Rc, and RefCell, combining Rc and RefCell, multithreaded memory management, and mastering Lifetimes on types and Traits. The course then moves on to Unsafe Rust, teaching how to use Raw Pointers, write Unsafe functions, and pass data via FFI, along with an overview of Macros. With the core mechanisms mastered, a large portion of the course is devoted to Concurrency. Learners learn to work with Closures and the Move keyword, and then create CPU threads and fan-out and fan-in architectures using Channels. Next, Async Rust topics are covered, including Async Channels, shared states, and thread management. Finally, these concepts are applied to advanced web development, allowing developers to implement custom middlewares, manage lazy databases with Arc, and handle errors using the Anyhow framework. The course concludes with implementing JSON Web Tokens, broadcasting messages over Websockets, and packaging applications for production using Healthchecks, Docker, Release Profiles, and Workspace Management.

What you will learn

  • Mastery of advanced typing systems including Traits, Associated Types, Trait Bounds, and Newtype Patterns
  • Advanced memory management using Box, Rc, and RefCell smart pointers along with mastery of Lifetimes
  • Writing Unsafe Rust Code, Working with Raw Pointers, Unsafe Functions, and Using FFI
  • Implementing synchronization and concurrency with CPU threads and Channels
  • Developing Asynchronous Applications (Async Rust) and Managing Shared States
  • Building advanced web applications including custom middlewares and database management with Arc
  • Error handling with Anyhow script and implementing JSON Web Tokens and Websockets communications
  • Final preparation and packaging of the project for the production environment with Docker and Workspaces management

This course is suitable for people who:

  • Programmers who have learned the basics of the Rust language and want to move on to advanced topics
  • Developers looking to master memory management and safe and unsafe mechanisms in Rust
