Description

Practical Database Design – Blog Schema is a complete course for teaching database theory and its practical application in the real world. Databases or relational database systems have always been a subject with a “steep learning curve”. Students tend to find it challenging and require much more effort to learn than other subjects. To my surprise, I am one of many people who have observed this trend. In fact, a small fraction of research papers have been written on this topic.

So why is it so challenging? When I think about how we can overcome some of the challenges when learning databases on the fly, I think of one fact that remains true, dating back even to when I first started learning database systems. There was a need for more examples or actual database design in practice.

What you will learn in this course:

• You design and implement the database from a given set of requirements
• Define a set of initial entities and attributes to begin database design
• Normalize the database design to 1NF by considering multi-valued and multi-part fields
• Create candidate and primary keys of the table
• Normalize the database design to 2NF by considering partial key dependencies
• And much more
