Description
Python for Network Engineers: Zero to Automated Networks is a course on using Python to automate, manage, monitor, and troubleshoot modern network infrastructures, published by Udemy Online Academy. Starting with Python fundamentals, the course gradually introduces networking concepts, automation libraries, device communication, configuration management, data processing, and network APIs. The course takes you from knowing nothing about Python to writing automation that you can run against production infrastructure. Learners will work with technologies and tools used to interact with network devices, automate repetitive tasks, collect operational data, validate configurations, and improve network reliability.
You start with the environment — installing Python, virtual environments, pip, VS Code, and Git — because that’s where most people leave off before writing a line of code. Each video lesson has an accompanying article with a complete, heavily commented Python solution that you can run. The exercises target free Cisco DevNet sandboxes and lab tools like Containerlab, EVE-NG, and GNS3, so you can practice against real machines without touching anything of your own. The course concludes with safely using AI in a network workflow and packaging your work as a tested repository with continuous integration.
What you will learn in Python for Network Engineers: Zero to Automated Networks:
- Write Python that turns raw show command output into structured data you can filter, compare and report on.
- Push configuration safely using a six-step pattern: snapshot, dry run, one device, verify, diff, then save.
- Run jobs across a whole fleet concurrently, turning an eight-minute collection into a thirty-second one.
- Handle credentials properly with environment variables, getpass and KeePass, so no password ever lives in your code.
- Connect to network devices from Python with Paramiko, Netmiko and NAPALM across Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet and Arista.
- Work with network APIs: requests, REST, RESTCONF and NETCONF, and choose the right transport for each task.
- Generate configuration at scale with Jinja2 templates driven by YAML data, and audit compliance with set operations.
- Build the scripts engineers actually run: configuration backup with change detection, daily health reports, pre- and post-change verification, and topology disc
- and …

Course topics

Python for Network Engineers: Zero to Automated Networks Prerequisites
Working knowledge of networking: IP addressing, VLANs, routing, and the command line of at least one platform.
Comfortable opening an SSH session to a device and reading show command output
A computer running Windows, macOS or Linux on which you can install software.
No programming experience required. We install Python together in the first section.
A text editor. We set up VS Code in Section 1, and it is free.
Optional but useful: somewhere to practise. Free Cisco DevNet sandboxes are used throughout, and Containerlab, EVE-NG or GNS3 all work if you prefer your own lab.
